Gu Garners Academic Recognition

Abington, Pa. – Penn State Abington sophomore Wenxu Gu earned academic recognition from College Sports Communicators (CSC) and Philly-SIDA for his performance not only on the court but in the classroom.  Gu was named to the CSC Academic All-District team and was selected to  Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area team.
 
Gu, a Management major, boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.91.  This past season, Gu was named to the All-United East first team for both singles and doubles for the second straight season.  He finished with an impressive 10-1 record at first singles and posted a 7-1 mark at first doubles with partner Tripp Mangifesta
 
Abington (12-3, 5-2 UEC) started the season with an 8-0 record tying the program's longest winning streak in the team's Division III era.  The Nittany Lions went on to finish the year with 12 wins and advance to the United East semifinals.  The 12 victories marked the second most since joining D-III.  The team's three losses this year are the fewest by the team since 2014-15 when the team finished 11-4.
 
ABOUT COLLEGE SPORTS COMMUNICATORS: The 2024-25 Academic All-District teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. 
 
ABOUT PHILLY-SIDA: In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, a student-athlete must be in his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.  The team is then voted on by the athletic communications offices at 30 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
