Women’s Basketball Falls to Lancaster Bible, 68-51

Box Score Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team fell to the Lancaster Bible College Chargers on Wednesday evening by a score of 68-51.

Abington (7-9, 5-4 NEAC) was led offensively by junior forward Janay Winston who scored a career-high 21 points, while sophomore forward Jessica Schmidt added 13 points on the night.  Schmidt, who averages 10.4 rebounds per game, grabbed seven rebounds in tonight's effort. Senior guard Trish Watson tallied 10 points, six assists and three steals.

Aubrey Folger led the Chargers (13-3, 9-2 NEAC) with 24 points and nine rebounds on the night, while fellow teammate, Lauren Heliger scored 21 points with six assists and eight rebounds. Emily Lloyd came down with 11 boards and added six points on the night.
Despite holding off a quick start, leading by as much as four points in just eight minutes into the tip-off, Abington could not contain the strong attack by the Chargers, as Emily Lloyd posted a layup in the paint at the 8:32 mark to spark a Chargers' 11-0 run.

Abington managed to bounce back with a jumper by Winston to cut trail by five with just two minutes remaining on the clock, but Lancaster's offense was too much for the Nittany Lions as the Chargers wrapped up the half with three additional points to make it a 29-21 game at the intermission.

Junior guard Jaclyn Vandiver nailed a three-pointer for Abington, however Lancaster's Brooklyn Wilson responded back with a trey for the Chargers, which energized to an 8-2 run. From there, Lancaster began to pull away by as much as 18 points during the remainder of the second half. Abington kept fighting its way back into the game hitting the marks, but couldn't seem to get into any offensive flow, shooting just 2-of-19 (10 percent) from beyond the arc. Lancaster wrapped up the second half shooting 43 percent from the floor, keeping the Nittany Lions at bay by as much as 17 points for the remainder of the game.

The Chargers outscored the Nittany Lions in the paint 24-to-18, and had 21 points off of turnovers. Lancaster also held a 15-to-6 advantage on second-chance points.

The Nittany Lions look to rebound from the loss and march back up the NEAC South Division standings when they travel to Gallaudet this Saturday. Game time is set for 12:00 pm in Washington, D.C., but you can get all your news and notes on the Nittany Lions right here at abingtonsports.com.
